A Sinn Féin Poblachtach member in Tyrone has been approached by who it can only be assumed is the British intelligence services. He received a number of calls from an unfamiliar number which he did not answer. After a number of calls, a text message was sent to him from “Edel”.

In this message they offered to help him claiming they were aware he was in financial difficulties. The messages has all the hallmarks of Mi5 who have sent similar messages to republicans in the past and have also approached this individual numerous times. We commend him for reporting the incident immediately!

Sinn Féin Poblachtach calls on anyone who has been similarly approached to contact one of our members. We condemn attempts by the British government to feed off others vulnerabilities. They have no intention in helping people and only put their lives in danger.
