Wolfe Tone / Bodenstown

This page is in memory of

United Irishman, Theobald Wolfe Tone

the founding father of Revolutionary Irish Republicanism for his efforts to unite all within Ireland under the common name of Irishman, to abolish sectarianism and thus “to create a rank for our country among the nations of the earth.”

1763 - 1798

1763 – 1798

Every July the Republican Movement attends its annual pilgrimage to the graveside of Theobald Wolfe Tone.  In doing so the Movement endeavours to keep the spirit and memory alive of a man who sacrificed every fibre of his being that Ireland might know Liberté, égalité, fraternité.

“To subvert the tyranny of our execrable government, to break the connection with England, the never failing source of all our political evils, and to assert the independence of my country–these were my objects. To unite the whole people of Ireland, to abolish the memory of all past dissentions, and to substitute the common name of Irishman, in the place of the denominations of Protestant, Catholic, and Dissenter–these were my means.”

Below we have archived orations made down the years at the grave of Wolfe Tone by prominent republicans, it is an archive we hope to expand over time.
