Derry member of Sinn Féin Poblachtach continually harassed by RUC/PSNI

Three weeks ago a member of Sinn Féin Poblachtach in Derry city was pulled over on Westway by the RUC/PSNI as he went to collect his partner from work at 5pm. Two male members of the RUC held him until another car came with a female RUC member who told him there was a “threat issue” on him from another group alleging that he was an informer.

Two days later the RUC/PSNI knocked on his partner’s door asked for him and said, “I see your car windows are broken, have you anything to report?” He told them in no uncertain term to go away from the door.

On October 27 he, his partner and children were in the car going to get a takeaway in town and the RUC pulled them over at the Creggan Park. They got out of their car and came up to see who was in the car. When they saw it was his partner and children they said, “Get you another time, I see your with family” and went back to their car.

On October 30 at 10.59pm a man rang his partner’s mobile and asked for the SFP member. The man then claimed he was a member of the RUC and said, “Alright, I hear you’re having some trouble with members of your organisation. If you want to get rid of them I can help you with that.” The Sinn Féin Poblachtach activist, who still has that phone number, told him get lost and hung up.

On November 1 just before 12pm male members of the RUC/PSNI knocked on his partner’s door again and said “We have a threat issued for you from a Republican group in Derry and they have not ruled out the use of firearms.”
The Sinn Féin Poblachtach member has logged all these approaches with his solicitor. He and his family are constantly harassed by the RUC/PSNI but will not be intimidated by them.
