A Sinn Féin Poblachtach member in Co Cavan had his vehicle seized on the night of October 26 as he was coming home from a hard day’s work.

The Gardaí had a vcp set up and were letting cars drive on without checking any details. When the Sinn Féin Poblachtach member reached the Garda checkpoint they instructed him to pull into the side of the road. He was asked for his driving documents which he produced. They said he was not displaying a tax disc and the activist stated that it was in the post and he should have it in the next day, even showing paperwork to prove this. The Gardaí on hearing this immediately seized the Republican’s vehicle.

Sinn Féin Poblachtach in Cavan clearly see this as targeted political policing and another act of victimisation against Republicans in the area. We stand by the activist and his family who need their vehicle handed back to them with immediate effect.
