Having heard of the plight of Dr Issam Hijjawi, who is being held in Maghaberry jail Co Antrim, Republican POW Jonathan Hawthorn undertook a two week hunger strike in solidarity which commenced last Thursday 17 in Portlaoise jail, along with other POWs in both Portlaoise and Maghaberry jails.

Dr Hijjawi has serious health issues and is being held in isolation in Foyle House, an area known to be unfit for human habitation. The vindictive nature of the whole judicial system in Occupied Ireland is known to all Republicans, the screws are an integral part of this system. Sinn Féin Poblachtach fully supports Jonathan and his stand in solidarity with Dr Hijjaw.
