Cosy golden circle of politicians, judiciary and media constitutes the 26-County state establishment

The Leinster House Golf Society dinner held in Clifden, Co Galway on Wednesday. August 19, 2020,  is a public manifestation of the cosy golden circle of politicians, judiciary and media that constitutes the 26-County state establishment. The fact that they would hold such a gathering during a pandemic, and only a day after new public health measures had been announced by the 26-County regime, merely shows their utter contempt for public health and welfare of the people of Ireland.

From the vantage point of their elite and privileged bubble, rules and laws are only for the little people. A 26-County minister Dara Calleary; Supreme Court Judge, Séamus Woulfe; Circuit Court Judge and former Workers’ Party TD, Pat McCartan; EU Commissioner, Phil Hogan; and a prominent retired RTÉ journalist, Seán O’Rourke are among those who attended this event in contravention of rules regarding social gatherings.

The nature of the gathering shows cosy relationships and hidden channels of power that operate at the heart of the 26-County State and have done for the past century. None of this is new and Republicans have been pointing it out since this neo-colonial state was imposed on the Irish people almost 100 years ago under threat of “immediate and terrible war.”

Sinn Féin Poblachtach presents Éire Nua as a democratic alternative to the corruption, nepotism and cronyism that fuels the 26-County state. Under Éire Nua it is the people who are empowered not a small elite, making decisions that affect us all while hidden from public gaze and democratic scrutiny. All those who attended this event and who hold public office either in the 26-County state or the EU should resign with immediate effect. They have betrayed the trust placed in them as public representatives and/or public office holders. Their blatant and arrogant disregard for the health and welfare of the people make them unfit for public office.
