It has been reported today that the son of former Libyan Leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has been released. Saif al-Islam was held captive for six years. In that time he was reportedly tortured and endured horrendous treatment at the hands of the imperalist backed Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Battalion who had essentially held him as a bargaining chip.
Saif was sentenced to death by a court in Tripoli by the imperialists who overthrew the legitimate Government of Libya in 2011.
He is also wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for “crimes against humanity” allegedly committed during the eight months of the 2011 revolt.
Republican Sinn Féin welcomes this news, the Gaddafi family provided vital material and vocal support to the Irish people at the height of the conflict with the British in the 70s and 80s.
