Cumann Na Saoirse Náisiúnta / National Irish Freedom Committee April 16th 2017 Easter Sunday
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, April 16th 2017, family and friends of modern day Fenian Séamus Ó Dubhda joined Cumann Na Saoirse Náisiúnta, the National Irish Freedom Committee for a graveside ceremony at ST. Johns Cemetery in Middle Village New York. Jóe Flaherty was emcee.
The program opened with a recording of the man himself, Séamus Ó Dubhda reading Fógra na Cásca as he had done at every NIFC Easter Commemoration for the last 10 years. After listening to the recording of Séamus’s always stirring rendition, his daughter Mairéid was asked to the podium to give Pearse’s Oration at the grave of Ó Donovan Rossa.
A biography was then read of Séamus by two of his many beloved grandchildren. Requiem For The Croppies, a Poem by Séamus Heaney was read by Séamus’s daughter Siobhan, and the program was concluded with a reading of the 2017 Easter Statement by the Republican Movement in Ireland by Cumann Na Saoirse Náisiúnta member Pat Williams. Refreshments were provided after the ceremony by the Ó Dubhda family.
