Preas Ráitheas / Press Release {RSF Statement}

“A recent report conducted by the Belfast Telegraph suggesting an increase in Irish applications to join the British Army are not to be welcomed.

The history of the British army in Ireland of collusion, operating with deadly impunity and cold blooded murder of Irish citizens is further made worse by the fact they remain in 2017 an army of occupation effectively stunting the growth of the Irish nation with 5,000 plus troops stationed in the occupied north east of Ireland.

Republican Sinn Féin implores any young Irishman or woman with the thought of joining this imperialist war-mongering army to think long and hard and of the possible consequences. History is not taught in a progressive manner in Irish schools, many young Irish people are not aware of their own history and thus end up making these mistakes based on the fact they no longer have a sense of nationhood and what it means to be Irish, politics may not be a thought in this decision but it cannot be ignored. Actions have responsibilities.

Irish people who join this army of occupation, openly collaborate with the enemy of the Irish People. They themselves become the enemy of the people, enemies of the community, they become traitors to Ireland.”
