14900455_1834259106820280_8445611289021127482_nOn November 6, 2016 Republican Sinn Féin commemorated I.R.A. Martyrs in Edentubber and Castlebar.  The annual Edentubber Martyrs commemoration which is a national event heard Eddie McKeown of Newry deliver the oration.

As every year in this area there was a sizable special branch presence there to harass republicans, despite this republicans remembered solemnly their martyred dead with respect.  In Mayo, a wreath laying commemoration was held at the Republican Plot in Castlebar.

A Guard of Honour led the gathering to the graves of the three men killed in the Kilmeena ambush, which was an action during the Irish War of Independence that took place at Kilmeena, County Mayo on 19 May 1921.

Dan Hoban chaired the event, with a decade of the rosary by Sean Lynch. The 1916 proclamation was read by Thomas 14962615_1834259290153595_2224864160467574548_nCurran. Wreaths were laid by Dr. Myles McEvilly, nephew of Captain Seamus Mc Evilly, Peader Murray, Mayo and Sean Lynch, Longford. The commemoration ended with the playing of the National Anthem.

Republican Sinn Féin wish to thank everyone who traveled and supported these important commemorative events and to those who supplied food and refreshments afterwards.
