Back in 1973 the Republican Movement and Sinn Féin Poblachtach campaigned against entering a European Union, warning as it has that any such Union would morph into an imperial super power in its own right.

As such Sinn Féin Poblachtach welcome the result of the recent vote in the so-called ‘United Kingdom’, the result having dealt a damaging blow to EU/EEC imperialism.  In turn  due to ever favoring circumstances it will also come to deal the deathly blow to the United Kingdom.

The ‘Brexit’ result will however spark a wanting return to UK dominance, and the West British element in the 26 Counties will no doubt be cranking up the call for ‘Ireland’ to rejoin and be united in the British Commonwealth.

Sinn Féin Poblachtach has long advocated the independence of small nations, working together in common friendship for the common good.  Such bureaucratic unions only create an imperialist political elite at the expense of the People.  What the European Union was for England, so too has the United Kingdom been for Ireland only with centuries of bloodstained paper work as proof of grave injustice against the right of this nation to be free.

Set out in “A Vision of the Future: Celtic Identity and Cooperation” Sinn Féin Poblachtach have declared our position of co-operation with our fellow Celtic countries.  England for its part as an independent nation would play a progressive part.

In “A Vision of the Future: Celtic Identity and Cooperation”, it states, “Assurance will be given also that there can be no enmity between these peoples and ours and that no conflict of opinion or loyalty can eventuate unless in these countries their own best national interests are subordinated to alien imperialist interests”.  In line with this position we issue caution to Scotland, Wales and indeed all the people of Ireland that the European Union is no friend.

Under European membership the 26 County state has seen certain industries all but destroyed in return for meager EU grants and funding.  But nothing can remove the injustice of the People in the 26 Counties having to pay 42% of debt as a result of the European Banking Crisis.  Mark this in contrast to the ridiculous 4% quota allocated to us in our own territorial waters for fish caught, an industry worth billions to our economy lost to back up European capitalist imperialism.  EU membership is not viable for a prosperous Irish nation.  Nor is partition.

Only a united and free Ireland can pave the way for lasting peace with justice.

As the Proclamation of 1916 declares, “Cherishing all of the children of the nation equally”.  Sinn Féin Poblachtach again highlight the Éire Nua proposals for a 32 County Federal Democratic Social Republic, in an Ireland free from UK and EU imperialism working with respect and cooperation for the well being of all within this and other small nations.
