100 Years on: The Republican Movement Remembers 1916

downloadRepublican SINN FÉIN Poblachtach hosted their Centenary Commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising on April 23rd, 2016.  An estimated minimum of two thousand people assembled at the GPO following the march to that center of the Rising in 1916.

Organisations in attendance including the two Sinn Féin Colour Parties were Na Fianna Éireann and Cumann  na mBan led by a Piper and the Coatsbridge United Irishmen RFB.

getmediafile (1)The event was chaired by An Chomhairleoir Tomas O Curraoin.  The Proclamation was read by a member of the Colour Party.  The Roll of Honour was read by Colette Healy and Alan Byrne.  Wreaths was laid on behalf of the Leadership of the Republican Movement by John Hunt, a Veteran of the Republican cause of Limerick and Chicago.  John also delivered some inspiring words to those gathered at the GPO.  The main orations were delivered by Ard Chomhairle member John Joe McCusker and Uachtaran Des Dalton.

Sinn Féin will be hosting as part of our Centenary Programme commemorative events in all four provinces over the coming months.
