We Remember all our Patriot Dead [RSF Westmeath]

On January 13, 2016 Republicans from across Ireland and the midlands remembered Nell Malone who sadly passed away unexpectedly.  RSF President Des Dalton issued a brief few words after the funeral which are worthy of sharing;

“I had the privilege of attending the funeral today in Meedin, Co Westmeath of a woman who was possibly the last surviving widow of a veteran of the 1916 Rising. Nell Malone’s husband, Seosamh Ó Maoileoin, along with his brothers Tomas and Seamus, aided by their mother, the redoubtable Maire, fought off British forces from their family home in Meedin from the Tuesday of Easter Week 1916. They refused to give up voluntarily, forcing the British army to break into the house on Thursday May 4. The same house has remained an open house to Republicans down the subsequent decades.”

Meanwhile members of the James Daly Cumann, Westmeath are currently in the process of restoring and cleaning up graves of Republicans in Westmeath and bordering counties.  This picture shows one of our comrades standing beside the grave of Joe Byrne in Crith, Co Offaly on the 20th of January. “Work has started today and it is hoped to commemorate Joe as part of our 1916 – 2016 centenary of the Easter Rising”, said one member of the Cumann.  Republican Sinn Féin vow to always remember our Patriot dead, not just in 2016 like the Free Staters’ and their hypocritical homage but every year going forward as we have every year previous.
