On Saturday, February 22, a republican representative from Ireland and members of the Anti Makapaltis/Fritz Langsdorf based in the Netherlands attended the symposium “Demanding Justice for Imperialist Crimes against Humanity,” organized by the Filipino Refugees in the Netherlands under the auspices of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle. It was held in the Grote Zaal of De Kargadoor, Utrecht.
The symposium was address by a representative of the Republican Movement in Ireland who addressed the current situation, mistreatment, abuse, and protest of the republican POW’s imprisoned in Maghaberry jail, in particular the assault of Martin Kelly and Thomas Ashe Mellon. He furthermore introduced the audience to the fight for Justice for the Craigavon2.
Other speakers at the symposium included Prof. Jose Maria Sison, Chairperson of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle; Mohammed Khatib of Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa’adat from Palestine; Luis G. Jalandoni, Chief International Representative of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines; Ceni of Kurdish Women’s Office for Peace; and Jan Fermon of Progress Lawyers Network.
The subjects of the contributions included demanding justice for imperialist crimes against humanity. Under the visitors there was also a special attention given to the fact that their activities focused on the denial and destruction of the cultural identity of the people. It was stressed, that this is in close connection with the struggle for political rights. Hence, parallels were drawn between the criminalization of the speaking of the Irish Language by the English colonial forces and the ruining of the Palestine culture by Israeli-Zionist authorities.
The symposium was attended by over six dozens of visitors as well as representatives from various political organizations in the Netherlands. During the course of the event, the Dutch members of the Anti Makapaltis/Fritz Landsdorf Cumann could establish new contacts in the local community, while the Republican Movement in Ireland could strengthen their links with international revolutionary organisations.
