Galway Republican Sinn Féin would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tomás Ó Curraoin on his re-election to Galway County Council.
Since first standing for Republican Sinn Féin in 1999, Tomás has built a solid base of support in Connemara culminating in his election to Galway County Council in 2009. In his five years as a councillor Tomás has been noted for his tremendous work rate on behalf of the people of Connemara.
In an interview with the Galway City Tribune after his election in 2009 Tomás stated “I will stand for the people, I will stand for their rights. I am a member of Republican Sinn Féin and as a result I am a 32-County man, but I will represent everyone, be it Catholic, Protestant or Dissenter, as Wolfe Tone said. I plan on representing everyone”.
True to his word Tomás has for the past five years worked tirelessly to represent all of the people of Connemara regardless of their background or whether they voted for him.
Tomás is the first Republican to have been elected to represent the people of Connemara in decades and continues as the only Republican councillor in the country as he gives his allegiance to the Republic of Easter Week and not to the partitionist parliaments of Stormont and Leinster House who subvert that Republic.
