KFC Comes To Arklow

Preas Ráiteas / Press Release:

2670647_48e4f9fbThe controversial granting of planning permission for yet another fast food chain in Arklow was announced recently. KFC is set to build a new restaurant on the Wexford road, bringing the number of takeaways in the town to 14. The fact that the majority of towns in the country are now littered with Bookmakers and Fast Food outlets is a telling indication of the way our society is headed. Given that figures show almost 25% of Irish children are now obese, it’s worth pointing out that this restaurant is going to be very close to local secondary schools.

The Irish poultry farming industry produces over 70 million chickens each year. The closures in recent years of many poultry factories are a testament to the decimation caused by the importation of cheap chicken. Companies like KFC, who source almost half of their chicken from Europe, Thailand and Brazil, are exacerbating this problem. This in the long term negatively affects the Irish economy, be it from health problems from obesity or the loss of more jobs in our agricultural sector. We encourage people to support indigenous business and work together to prevent the decimation of our native economy.
