Partition strengthened not weakened

The resurrection on February 3 (for the seventh time) of the Stormont executive has been welcomed by the British and Free State Establishments. It has been sold as a triumph for the nationalist people of the Occupied Six Counties as a nationalist becomes First Minister.

Sinn Féin Poblachtach believes that the former Republicans who now run Stormont along with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) at the behest of the British government have strengthened the union with Britain and cemented partition and betrayed the people of the Six Occupied Counties.

The DUP returned to Stormont having done a deal with the British government which excluded all other Stormont parties, showing how unimportant the role of the First Minister is, be she/he nationalist or unionist. The British withheld subsidies from the British Exchequer to the Six-County statelet, leading to the rundown of services as nurses and civil servants are forced to strike for their rights.

The Provisionals and their leaders have moved a long way from their roots. They have forgotten the sacrifices of the many Irish Republicans who gave their lives and freedom for an end to the partition of our country.

Michelle O’Neill can dress up her role as First Minister, saying she is an Irish republican and will work for all, but in reality she is doing the bidding of Westminster. She and her party are part of the British establishment, they have accepted the partition settlement in Leinster House and Stormont and their talk of a border poll and unification are bogus, just more lies and hot air to fool the people of the Occupied area.

Sinn Féin Poblachtach stands for a new Ireland where all the people, acting as a unit, will come together and agree on the future.

We will continue to highlight Éire Nua, our blueprint for a united Ireland and will resist any attempt to pull the wool over people’s eyes.
