R.I.P. Pat MacMaghnuis

Patrick McManus – 3/3/60 – 19/4/20

It was with great sadness that Sinn Féin Poblachtach learned of the death of Pat McManus. Pat was a stalwart Republican and loyal comrade. “Big Pat” was one of our most valued activists. No task was too big or too small for him.

His dedication, courage, and selflessness was exemplified in his professionalism and dedication as a NHS nurse. Despite his own underlying health issues, Pat refused to remove himself from frontline duties such was his commitment to help others and to save life. The failure to provide adequate supplies of effective PPE equipment for frontline health workers, in the face of the Covid-19 crisis, is a betrayal of those who are putting their lives at risk to protect society.

We share here some tributes which have been paid by comrades in his cumann and senior members.  Sinn Féin Poblachtach will honor his memory at an appropriate time in future.

We were privileged to have known Pat as a comrade. To his partner Lena, his three sons and extended family we extend our deepest sympathy.

Today we lost a great friend and comrade to the corona virus, Patrick McManus.

Pat, was a native of Strabane, Co Tyrone.  He was a senior front line nurse in the NHS in England.  A truly caring man who ended up making the ultimate sacrifice for others.  He was a true Republican Socialist who never wavered from or shirked from his duty to Ireland.  He successfully steered himself and comrades through previous phases of the war to free our country in Derry and indeed throughout Ireland and Britain. He shall be remembered as a man of wisdom and action who helped many people and was always there to offer advice to us all. A man of great inner strength who taught us what it is to be an Irish Republican and a patriot.

We would like to send our deepest condolences to all his family and friends. Let’s us celebrate the fact that he touched our hearts and he will have a place in them forever.

God bless you Pat and Tiocfaidh ar la.

Bobby Sands – Anne Devlin Cumann, Sinn Féin Poblachtach.

I woke this morning to the sad news that my friend and comrade died of Covid 19.  A Nurse in the NHS he was on the front line of the fight against this virus.
He is one of many victims of the “herd immunity” policy advocated by Boris Johnson. No clapping, no candles will bring him back. When this all passes I can only hope that health care staff are recognised for the fantastic workers they are and are paid accordingly.

I was deeply saddened to hear this morning of the death of Pat McManus. “Big Pat” was a big man in every sense. Big in heart and courage. A loyal and dedicated gentleman who always put others first. As an NHS Nurse, despite his own underlying health issues,he put himself on the frontline in order to help others and to save lives.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and comrades. Proud to have known him and to call him comrade.

Today my lovely friend Pat lost his battle with Coronavirus Covid 19. Pat was a gentleman of the highest order. As a nurse with the NHS he was on the frontline and knew the risks but that’s just the type he was, always a kind word for everyone and a willingness to help others. I again urge everyone to follow the guidelines on this killer virus. Pat you were a gent until the very end. Heartbroken for his family who cant give him the send off he so richly deserves but we will all remember him for the gent he was.💔
