This statement was drafted to provide clarification on Gabriel’s release and to again welcome him home and thank all those who have supported him and his family during this injustice.
Sinn Féin Poblachtach are pleased to welcome home Gabriel Mackle from Maghaberry jail, Co Antrim. Having been released from Maghaberry in August 2017, the British so-called security services decided to come to his home in November, arrest him and intern him without trial or reason.
Sadly for the duration of his internment Gabriel was denied access to the Republican landings. An action blamed on a perceived threat from fellow Republican prisoners, unfortunately the threat was something that none of the prisoner groups would confirm or deny.
After an early lock up on March 15, the screws came to Gabriel’s cell and informed him he was to be released immediately. Gabriel was released on the same conditions as August 2017, an indication if any were needed that he was interned without justification. We can only hope that Gabriel is now allowed to carry on with his life unhindered by the nameless and faceless security services. It is clear from this internment that the RUC/PSNI are subservient to MI5/6 when it comes to Republicans.
We take this opportunity to thank Gabriel’s legal team who worked diligently on the case, those witnesses who were willing to challenge the lies put about by security services and those who supported Gabriel and his family through this unnecessary ordeal. We call for the release of Tony Taylor who, similarly in interned on the word of the faceless secret police. The case of Gabriel shows plainly that these secret police can and will lock up Republicans Internment has not worked in the past and will not work today.
