Preas Ráitheas / Press Release – 10/12/2016
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach utterly condemn the arrest of Liam Campbell on foot of a European arrest warrant in the 26 county state at the behest of the Lithuanian authorities, where he was wanted in connection with a gunning running plot.
This is not the first time Liam has been arrested under this legislation for the same charge, he was arrested in 2009 in the Occupied Six Counties for the same charge. His brother Michael was arrested and charged in 2008 and only released in 2013 when the Vilnius court of appeal deemed there was not enough evidence. While in Lithuania Michael Campbell was incarcerated in a jail that was an actual concentration camp in the Second World War, his toilet a hole in the ground. Communication was almost impossible due to the language barrier. It seems yet again that sinister elements within British security services are playing games with the life of Liam, it is inconceivable that he will once again find himself inside a prison awaiting extradition.
We call on all Republicans and those interested in civil rights to call for his immediate release.”
