Statement from the CIRA POWs in Maghaberry Jail on death of Peggy O’Hara

48 copyThe CIRA POWs in Maghaberry jail, Co Antrim, were saddened today by the news of the passing of Peggy O’Hara, mother of Hunger Striker Patsy O’Hara.

We send our sincerest condolences to the family.

Peggy was a stalwart of Irish Republicanism and a strong figure within the local Derry Community. She embodied the struggle, she instilled the ideals of Republicanism within her family passing on to them her strength and conviction.

She was a regular honoured guest at Republican Sinn Fein’s commemoration in Bundoran, Co Donegal for the Irish Republican Hunger Strikers.

We held her in the highest regard and have seen her as a great inspiration throughout the years. Peggy’s memory will live on through her children and within the hearts of her family and friends and also with us for whom she showed the true value of dedication to a life within the Republican struggle.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the O’Hara family on this difficult day.
