Press Statement by Comhairleoir Tomás Ó Curraoin
E.U. bureaucracy denying family homes.
Speaking at the start of his election campaign, Republican Sinn Féin Galway County Councillor Tomás Ó Curraoin criticised regulations from Europe for preventing young people in Connemara from building their own homes on their own land.
Echoing what he had said previously in relation to drainage in South Galway, Tomás said that rules made in European cities are not suitable for problems unique to the rural West of Ireland.
With the constant drain of our young people from rural communities we must do all we can to try and stem the flow of our youth out of rural areas. Stopping young people from building their home on their own land in their own community is certainly not the way to go about it.
