In a statement on September 14, 2025 a spokesperson for Comhairle Uladh (Ulster Executive), Sinn Féin Poblachtach said: “Yet again, we witness ex-RUC/PSNI members leaving British policing through the back door. Former Devon and Cornwall Police chief constable Will Kerr was given a settlement of more than £160,000. He was suspended in July 2023 after an investigation was launched into claims against him relating to his time with the RUC/PSNI.

“The method of being pushed before you are shoved, with a financial handshake seems to be an unspoken policy within British policing.

“After his policing career in the Occupied Six Counties Kerr held several prominent roles in British policing. In the later part of his career, he took on the role of Chief Constable for Devon and Cornwall Police in December 2022. During his time there he faced suspension due to investigations into sexual offense allegations from his time with the RUC/PSNI.

“He then faced a separate misconduct investigation by the policing quango Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) during which he retired in July 2025. He received a £165,539 handshake in September 2025 meanwhile the misconduct investigation was unresolved.”
