In a statement on July 30, 2025 a spokesperson for Comhairle Uladh (Ulster Executive), Sinn Féin Poblachtach said: “We call on the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) to rescind the position of Jon Burrows, an ex-RUC/PSNI officer and a sectarian bigot who recently replaced North Antrim MLA Colin Crawford, who stepped down after less than a year in the role.

“It has been brought to the attention of Sinn Féin Poblachtach that the recently appointed British assembly member
had publicly declared in a post on X (formally Twitter) back in September 2023: ‘I hate fenians’?

“The UUP leadership should investigate such comments and reflect upon the needs of the nationalist people of his constituency. If found wanting Jon Burrows should be removed quickly to protect the nationalist people from this sectarian bigot.”
