In a statement on April 8, 2025 a spokesperson for Comhairle Uladh (Ulster Executive), Sinn Féin Poblachtach said: “According to the Guardian newspaper, plans for a new national police body which will lead the fight against so-called terrorism and serious organised crime are being drawn up for rolling out across Britain. It is also envisaged that this militia will potentially have as wide a reaching of powers as the FBI in the US.
“These new plans will give British imperialist warmongers another military arm of the state. There is no doubt they will be hate-filled, and modelling a pro-British militia.
“It is not surprising to see that the Counter-terrorism policing (CTP) division within the disgraced London’s Metropolitan police (the Met) is seeking to distance itself from its sister organisation’s wholly shameful past. Historically, the Met was once regarded as the pinnacle of British policing but in recent times they have had a fall from grace and faced intense criticism, resulting in widespread British public distrust.
“The impending changes to the CTP in Britain envisages overall operational activities will be managed in a newly created national centre for policing. Rather than what’s available now, which could be described as something that is cobbled together like Frankenstein’s monster.
“So what will this mean for the nationalist people living under British Occupation in Ireland? More of the same, just another paid militia willing to carry out the bidding of their paymasters. For forty plus years, we have had the RUC and the British army along with loyalist death squads prowling the streets and murdering unarmed civilians. One more layer, on top of the RUC/PSNI, that is drafted in as an attempt to quell our Irish resistance campaign will make no difference.
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach states, as supporters of Republican ideology, this has given us lived experience with British brutality. More of the same will not stop our organisation being at the fore, condemning any new British colonial policing policy.”
