In a statement on December 4, 2024, a spokesperson for Comhairle Uladh (Ulster Executive), Sinn Féin Poblachtach said: “It is hard to contemplate the death of any child. But the murder of a child who died trying to protect her mother from a violent attack in their home is particularly hard to contemplate.
“Women’s Aid Ireland highlights that today there are thousands of child witnesses and victims of domestic abuse. No child should ever have to experience violence and abuse nor lose their precious lives in such an awful way. Such a very brave girl, Malika (8).
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach believes that ending domestic abuse against women and children must be a priority for everyone in society.
“The 1916 Proclamation declares ‘…its resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and of all its parts, cherishing all the children of the nation equally’. This should be the cornerstone of Irish society.
“Our thoughts go out to Malika’s mother and everyone who loved her.”
Rest peacefully, little one.
