Loyalist Community Council perpetuates fear

In a statement on September 25, 2024, a spokesperson for Comhairle Uladh (Ulster Executive), Sinn Féin Poblachtach “voiced strong opposition to the Loyalist Community Council (LCC) for their continued strategy of ‘Planter-Ulsterisation’.

“In recent days the Loyalist Communities Council called on the Stormont education minister Paul Givan to halt any plans to build an Irish language school in east Belfast. Representatives from the LCC said they had told the DUP minister that any proposed school ‘has no meaningful support from the local unionist and loyalist populatio…’

“These LCC member groups are pro-British elements and are only interested in strengthening the cause of partition. The constituents who support such ideology, propagated by this group, tend to lean towards ultranationalism. In more recent times this has surfaced when known UDA and UVF fascists, along with their Tricolour-waving far right friends from Dublin, took part in racially-motivated violence towards ethnic minorities living in the Occupied six counties.

“The LCC is adding fuel to an already slow-burning tinder box. This verbal attack is not just about the native language of Ireland.

“Their raison d’être is to build upon a descriptive narrative which lends itself to the maintenance of the status quo and the promotion of Britain’s undemocratic and continued overlordship of our country and our people.

“These people continue to hang onto the words of Randolph Churchill, in his call to arms for the benefit of the English Tories, ‘Ulster will fight and Ulster will be right’.

“On the other hand, Sinn Féin Poblachtach would like to pay homage to those brave people of East Belfast who refuse to weaponise the lore and language of Ireland.

“Mise Éire, which simply means, ‘I am Ireland’. There is no other, no substitute and it belongs to the people of Ireland, Protestant, Catholic and Dissenter.”
