In a statement on Sept 8, 2024 a spokesperson for Cumann Tomás Ó hAirt, Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ard Mhacha Thuaidh, said “British Imperialism trumpets their murderous past over the skies of the Occupied Six Counties.
The largest ever British military air show took place over Portrush, Co Antrim over the weekend of September 7-8 following a five-year absence.
“A display of British assets from the Battle of Britain aerial display; a memorial trio of Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane took to the skies.
“Irish Republicans/nationalists see British events like these as triumphant coat-trailing and a glorification of military power.
“According to Causeway Coast and Glens Council this air display was axed in 2020 in a cost-cutting move following criticism of the hefty price tag believed to have been around £223,000 in 2019.
“Spirit AeroSystems and Thales operate for profit in the markets of defence and security, aerospace and space, digital identity and cybersecurity and have partnered with the local council. Both these multinational companies provide death in the name of profit throughout the world.
“It is plain to see that a celebration of imperialism is a military quick step march over the graves of many innocent people. we will remember those who are still being butchered at the hands of a rogue state such as Britain.
