In a statement on September 5, 2024 a spokesperson for Cumann Tomás Ó hAirt, Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ard Mhacha Thuaidh, said “The RUC/PSNI seem to be caught up in a never ending whirlwind of shame — staff are being repositioned; leaving in greater numbers or being sacked for all sorts of lawbreaking, coke snorting, gun-toting thuggery.

“These most recent incidents have seen two ‘cop thugs’ in the dock. Seemingly, Christopher Robert Michael Brett (50) and Neil McDonald (38) have at one time or another been accessing computer data held on members of the public.

“From the onset of partition in 1922 these British servants of the Crown have harassed and murdered the nationalist/Republican population.

“The propagandists in the RUC/PSNI would want to tell you that they are a new force. For instance, they use language like, ‘bad apples in every barrel’— ‘we will root them out’. They may have a new name but they remain the same sectarian force who care only about damage limitation and reaching a key target of a ‘representative’ RUC/PSNI from all sections of society living in the Occupied Six Counties.

“The British colonial police continue to be one of the armed forces of the British government in Ireland. Sinn Féin Poblachtach calls on the nationalist people not to join this discredited force.

Disband the RUC/PSNI.
