In a statement on July 2, 2024, a spokesperson on POW issues for Comhairle Uladh (Ulster Executive), Sinn Féin Poblachtach said, “Conditions in the Republican wing in Roe House in Maghaberry prison are severe, repressive and brutal and Sinn Féin Poblachtach unreservedly condemns the treatment meted out to the Republican prisoners there.
‘’The British prison regime in the Occupied Six Counties has always been a focal point of controversy and concern, particularly regarding the treatment of Republican prisoners. Recent reports coming from inside Maghaberry have highlighted excessive use of isolation as a punitive measure and the X-ray body scanners as a tool to harass them despite continuous efforts by Republican prisoners to resolve these issues and prevent the need for conflict.
“These events are proof that the British prison service is intent on stoking up an environment of conflict.
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach condemns Britain’s deliberate policy of refusing to engage with the prisoners, the screws’ vindictiveness towards the prisoners and the senior governors that are punitive and repressive.

Comhairle Uladh,
