Sinn Féin Poblachtach Condemns Arrest of Water Protesters

Preas Railteas

The arrests this morning of four water protesters is highly political.

The four were part of a very large crowd who protested at an event in Jobstown, Tallaght last November which 26-County minister Joan Burton attended.

The arrests are aimed at intimidating those who take part in water protests as well as demonising the campaign against the unjust water tax in the eyes of the wider public.

We would contrast the treatment meted out by the political police to those who stand up for the rights of their communities the protection given by the financial and political elite responsible for the present economic collapse. Who can now say we don’t live in a police state?

The arrests of the protesters is an all too familiar experience for Irish Republicans. Now more than ever people must stand up and fight back.
